AXELOS-Peoplecert online certifications rules
This year AXELOS and Peoplecert slightly changed their regulations for taking online exams for all certifications in AXELOS portfolio – ITIL(r), PRINCE II, MoR and many others.
After registering for online exam a candidate can download a software and check technical parameters of his/her computer or a laptop, i.e. webcam, audio devices, Internet connection and bandwidth. Note, that WiFi is eligible, but not recommended.
Prepare your room and desk. Nobody should attend in a room except a candidate; desk should be clear – only a laptop or a monitor and a keyboard. A door should be behind a candidate, visible in a webcam and closed.
Check your data and wait for a proctor.
Proctor greets a candidate and asks to show (photo) an id with a photo, candidate’s face and a room and a desk.
A candidate should have a cell phone/smartphone nearby in the room, but not on the desk in a silent mode.
During an exam a candidate is allowed to use a printed copy of an appropriate AXELOS book and 4 blank sheets of paper for notes.
During an exam a candidate should not stand up or move, look at any other places than a monitor and speak loudly.
In case of any questions or challenges a candidate can type to a proctor. In case of breching Internet connection a proctor calls a candidate and gives instructions.
Good luck!
ITIL Strategic Leader certification & Trainer preparation process
Strategic Leader is a separate branch of ITIL(r) certifications, which is aimed at digital transformation.
By now I passed the certification and the trainer evaluation track, and want to share my experience and thoughts about the process, certification, and their value.
I was deeply satisfied with how the trainer evaluation procedure is organized. Trainer evaluation is a multi-tiered step-by-step process, which enables high quality preparation of a trainer and provides guarantees of high-quality training processes.
First, a candidate passes a formal evaluation of his/her experience
At the second step a candidate works on the same assignments, which are delivered in the course. Assignments are evaluated individually.
Afterwards an face-2-face interview with an expert takes place. I appreciate greatly this experience as very helpful and valuable for me.
And finally, the certification exam. Let’s have a more close look at it, as the exam procedure can be interesting for more people.
To pass ITIL DITS certification a candidate should attend the authorized DITS – Digital IT Strategy – training, work out assignments – to be approved by a trainer, and afterwards a candidate is eligible to take an exam.
The exam is online. Candidates are eligible to use a hard copy module workbook and 4 blank sheets for comments.
The exam contains 30 questions with 4 answer options for each. Pass grade is 21 marks for all and 23 for trainers. The exam is not satisfactory in my point of view. While its aim is to confirm candidate’s ability to be a Strategic leader in digital transformation, most questions require remembering terms, which is better for the Foundation level.

PMBOK 7th available
PMBOK7 is expected to be open at August, 1st, but on July, 1st it became available to PMI members.
Now let’s give an overview of PMBOK7, which includes project management standard and guide.
As many other current methodologies, standards, and frameworks PMBOK moves to concept of principles and domains. That does not mean rejection of traditional tools and processes, but those – as well-known – are described at a Digital platform now. Tools, processes, techniques, and methods are implemented in certain company and project conditions within management domains and according to guiding principles. This approach provides more flexibility to organize projects in the most appropriate way.
PMBOK7 following the concept, founded in PMBOK6 offers 4 project management models: predictive, incremental, iterative and adaptive, and recommends development any types of hybrids. Cynefin and Stacey models are aplicable to define the project model.
PMBOK7 contains:
- brief standard
- Guide
- appendices, among those sponsor role, PMO role, product management vs project management.
Project management standard defines Value management system and 12 guiding principles.
Value delivery system includes 8 functions:
- Provide Oversight and Coordination
- Present Objectives and Feedback
- Facilitate and Support
- Perform work and contribute insights
- Apply Expertise
- Provide Business Direction and Insight
- Provide resources and Direction
- Maintain Governance
Internal and External environment are also parts of th value delivery system.
12 Project management principles are:
- Be a diligent, respectful, and caring steward
- Create a collaborative project team environment
- Effectively engage with stakeholders
- Focus on Value
- Recognize, Evaluate, and respond to system interactions
- Demonstrate Leadership behaviors
- Tailor based on context
- Build quality into processes and deliverables
- Navigate complexity
- Optimize risk responses
- Embrace adaptability and resiliency
- Enable change to achieve the envisioned future state.
The Guide includes and describes 8 performance domains:
- Project
- Team
- Development approach and lifecycle
- Planning
- Project work
- Delivery
- Measurement
- Uncertainty.
The special chapter Tailoring deals with interconnections between Domains, processes, methods, and artifacts.

PMP exam on-line
PMI announced on-line PMP exam. The general procedure is the same as a candidate takes at a specialized certification centre.
A candidate follows the same procedures, regulations and steps.
In this post I describe specific features of on-line (or PAJAMA) test.
All you need is a:
- computer with a webcam
- reliable internet connection
- quiet space where you can spend a few uninterrupted hours: room or private building, isolated from other rooms/locations, quiet where a candidate can keep a door and windows closed during exam
A candidate is required to be video monitored by a live proctor during the exam, the exam is not “on-demand” and you will need to schedule it ahead of time. However, appointments are offered 24/7 so you should be able to find a time that is convenient for your schedule.
Before starting the exam, you will need to complete a self-check-in process. You will be prompted to take a headshot photo, a picture of your identification card/driver’s license, and pictures of your surroundings. Once you begin the exam, you will not be permitted to leave the room or move out of the proctor’s view unless it is during the new built-in 10-minute break. Please note, once your 10-minute break is over, you will not be able to return to the questions from the first section of the exam. Once your 10-minute break is over, your proctor will check you back in and you will finish the second and final part of your exam. If you do not return to the room at the conclusion of your 10-minute break, your exam session will be terminated.
If you have a question during the exam, you can use the “Chat” function at the top of the screen to contact the proctor.
During the check-in process after you have submitted all required photos, the proctor may ask to see your environment, including the walls, floor space and the desktop. This is to ensure you are not within arm’s reach of books, notepads, post-it notes, papers, pens, pencils, or other writing instruments/objects. Additional monitors must be unplugged, and additional computers must be turned off. Items on the wall such as wall art, posters and whiteboards will be inspected. If you are unable to complete this room scan, you are not permitted to proceed further or to take the exam.
During the online exam session, you are not allowed to use exam-specific materials and are not permitted to use scratch paper, erasable whiteboards, a calculator, or any other physical writing objects such as a pen, marker, or pencil.
Instead, the exam has a built-in calculator feature. Whether you are taking the exam online or at a testing center, you will have access to the built-in calculator. You can access it by clicking on calculator icon in the exam screen.
For the online exam, you will also be able to access a built-in whiteboard while taking your online proctored exam. This feature gives candidates the choice to work through items visually by entering notes or drawing shapes. You can access it anytime during the exam by clicking the eraser icon at the top of the screen.
Make sure you have your acceptable identification available so that your identity can be verified. Acceptable forms of identification include: Driver’s license, military ID, national identification card, passport, and alien registration card (green card, permanent resident, and visa). The form must collectively contain both a photo and signature of the test candidate.
The use of mobile phones is prohibited during your exam. Using your phone may result in your exam session being terminated and you should prepare to be unreachable by phone while taking your exams. Mobile phones and other electronic devices must be placed out of arms reach before you begin your exam.
If there is a technical software issue during the exam, the proctor will try to contact you through online chat or Voice over IP (VoIP) using the OnVue software. If the proctor cannot contact you via chat or VoIP, they will try to call you at the phone number you provided during the check-in process. While you are not allowed to have your phone in your immediate workspace during the exam, you are permitted to use your phone in case of a technical issue to access technical support.

The proctor will work with you to try to resolve the technical issues. Any lost time because of the technical issue cannot be added back into the exam and you will not be compensated for any lost time. If you would like to reschedule, the proctor will direct you to contact the Pearson VUE Call Center with an Incident Report number they provide you. You may not be compensated depending on what technical issue occurred.
