Updates in PMP exam procedure
PMI announced radical changes in the certification exam procedure starting 2023, September, 25th.
The exam answers will be sent to PMI, so a candidate receives results in within 5 business days AFTER the exam take-date.
In case of candidate’s misconduct, the exam result is put in failure, and the next attempt is allowed in a test center (CBT) only. Online is prohibited.
How can I renew my ITIL certifications
Starting 2023 Axelos(r) acquired Peoplecert and introduced new rules for renewing certifications. Each certification is valid for 3 years now. There are 3 ways to renew –
- Pass a new exam. All certification periods for the previous certifications will be prolonged starting the last successful exam date.
- Pass one of the previous exams again. For example, if you are ITIL Foundation, CSD, DPI certified, you can take ITIL DPI twice and renew ALL certifications.
- Subscribe to Axelos membership resources here and gain 60 CPD during 3 years.

New rules for AXELOS certifications renewal
Here’s the excerpt from the Peoplecert official announcement:
“
starting this year, Global Best Practice certifications will be issued with a renew-by date.
Which certifications will come with a renewal requirement?
All candidates with a PeopleCert Global Best Practice certification can choose to renew within three years of their original certification dates.
Certifications with the option to renew after 3 years, are as follows:
- ITIL® 4
- PRINCE2® 5th and 6th
- PRINCE2® Agile
- MSP® 4th and 5th
- M_o_R® 3rd and 4th
- MoP®
- P3O®
- MoV®
- AgileSHIFT®
- RESILIA®
Do you have to renew your certification?
All candidates with relevant Global Best Practice certifications will be given the option to renew within three years of their original certification dates. This means:
- If you were certified before 30 June 2020: You will have until 1 July 2023 to choose to renew your certification(s), regardless of your original award date.
- If you were certified after June 2020: You will have the option to renew your certification(s) within 3 years of the original award date.
Your renew-by date can be viewed in your PeopleCert account.
Candidates that choose not to renew will still be included on the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) and the Candidate Verification Service, but a note will be added to their record to indicate that their certification needs to be renewed to align with current certification requirements.
How can you renew your certification?
Currently, there are two renewal paths available:
- Retake the same exam: You can choose to renew your certification by re-taking your original exam before the renewal date.
- Take further courses and certifications: You can choose to renew your certification by attending another course and taking an exam within the same product suite before the renewal date.
From March 2023, a third renewal path will be available:
- Collect and log CPD points: You will be able to choose to renew your certification through collecting and logging CPD points. More details on this path will follow soon.
Current MyAxelos subscribers can continue to log their CPD points, as before.”

PMI CAPM certification to be renewed in early 2023
CAPM – Certified Associate for Project management is a basic level project management certification. PMI announced its upgrade to PMBOK 7th version in early 2023
The NEW CAPM certification exam will better support you as a project professional by testing candidate’s skills on project management fundamentals in the areas of predictive, adaptive and business analysis principles.
The new exam version:
- “Will encompass 4 Domain areas:
- Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts
- Predictive Plan-Based Methodologies
- Agile Frameworks/Methodologies
- Business Analysis Frameworks
- A 10-minute break will also be added to the exam
Both the current and the new exam will include 150 questions to be completed in 3 hours and can be taken at a test center or as an online proctored exam. “
CAPM exam changes
PMI published the new contents outline and rules for the CAPM certification.
Now CAPM becomes the next step after student-oriented PM Ready certification.
It includes the same 4 domains:
- PM Fundamentals and core concepts
- Predictive, Plan-based methodologies
- Adaptive frameworks/methodologies
- Business analysis frameworks.
Current eligibility criteria are: secondary diploma AND 23 hours of formal education in PM.
Now CAPM holders can prolong their status by gaining 15 PDUs each 3 years.
AXELOS-Peoplecert online certifications rules
This year AXELOS and Peoplecert slightly changed their regulations for taking online exams for all certifications in AXELOS portfolio – ITIL(r), PRINCE II, MoR and many others.
After registering for online exam a candidate can download a software and check technical parameters of his/her computer or a laptop, i.e. webcam, audio devices, Internet connection and bandwidth. Note, that WiFi is eligible, but not recommended.
Prepare your room and desk. Nobody should attend in a room except a candidate; desk should be clear – only a laptop or a monitor and a keyboard. A door should be behind a candidate, visible in a webcam and closed.
Check your data and wait for a proctor.
Proctor greets a candidate and asks to show (photo) an id with a photo, candidate’s face and a room and a desk.
A candidate should have a cell phone/smartphone nearby in the room, but not on the desk in a silent mode.
During an exam a candidate is allowed to use a printed copy of an appropriate AXELOS book and 4 blank sheets of paper for notes.
During an exam a candidate should not stand up or move, look at any other places than a monitor and speak loudly.
In case of any questions or challenges a candidate can type to a proctor. In case of breching Internet connection a proctor calls a candidate and gives instructions.
